National aged care provider Bolton Clarke has launched the Inclusive Health and Ageing website to help drive aged care workers to deliver best-practice care for people from diverse backgrounds.
The resource, launched this month, features the latest research and information to help guide aged care and health professionals. Topics covered included lived experience, health and wellbeing, environmental conditions and diversity planning.
The types of diversty presented under lived experience include:
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
- culturally and linguistically diverse communities
- financial situation
- gender, sexuality and bodies
- living with disability
- living with dementia
- religion and spirituality
- trauma and abuse
- work history.
Understanding the intersection of diversity characteristics helps aged care and health professionals better support people’s individual needs, said Kath Paine, Bolton Clarke’s principal advisor of wellness and reablement.
“We know person-centred care considers an individual’s needs, preferences and values, drawing on their strengths to enhance participation in their healthcare,” she said.
“The Inclusive Health and Ageing website helps professionals deliver person-centred care by bringing together a variety of information, resources and research from within the industry to help continue to drive best practice.”
The website, which was developed with funding from the Commonwealth Department of Health and Aged Care, includes:
- information, resources, and educational programs for health professionals working with people from diverse backgrounds
- resources for consumers
- research papers, reports, reviews and guidelines providing a deeper, evidence-based perspective
- information from peak bodies, advocacy groups and other organisations.
