Tell TiNA is the latest addition to Dementia Australia’s Ask Annie app. The digital tool is designed to identify gaps in knowledge and skills amongst dementia carers so that providers can target their training.

Developed by Dementia Australia and Deakin University’s Applied Artificial Intelligence Initiative, the tool has been mapped to the new Dementia Training Australia National Dementia Education and Training Standards Framework. It is also designed to help workers and providers meet the strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards, which come into effect on 1 November.

Tell TiNA users are asked questions designed to gauge their dementia care understanding. Providers can then view their results in real time and see snapshots of individual team member’s training progress.

Dementia Australia executive director of services, advocacy and research Dr Kaele Stokes said people living with dementia had specific care and support needs that require the appropriate education and training of the workforce.

“This tool will support providers to take a continuous improvement approach to the care they deliver, as well as assess the strengths and areas of development within their workforce to build a comprehensive dementia care training strategy,” Dr Stokes said.

“Dementia education must not be a once off. It needs to include a regular process of formalised continuing professional development that benefits people receiving care as well as staff themselves.”

Organisations can preview the Tell TiNA tool by downloading the Ask Annie mobile app.
