Benetas digitally transforming home care
VIDEO: Victorian-based provider Benetas is rolling out and trialling a series of tech for home aged care as part of upgrading its out-dated and non-evidence-based legacy system.

Not-for-profit aged care provider Benetas is about to implement a new platform and series of technologies for its home care business.
Home care is a priority in the provider’s digital transformation, said John Staines, who has been the chief information officer at Benetas for the last three years.
“We’ve had a legacy home care platform for a long time. And, essentially, when that was built and designed there wasn’t really any evidence-based work which was used to establish that platform. And so the cost of the platform and the outcomes don’t really align to what we need, tomorrow,” Mr Staines told Community Care Review on the sidelines of the recent ITAC conference in Melbourne.
The transformation has looked at everything including optimising the travel time of carers, accurate billing and client budgets.
“Lots of different bits and pieces which will allow us to essentially provide high quality, accurate, repeatable services, but also a portal for the actual consumers and their families to essentially look at what services we are performing.”
Also in the home care space, Benetas is undertaking trials of technology to improve safety for Support at Home program clients.
“Which is using digital technologies for monitoring home care practices, which will allow consumers to stay at home longer and essentially for us to be able to monitor, and for the families to be able to monitor any declines in their self-care at home.”
