Merger off as Charlestown Caring Group closes
The deal falling through does not affect ADSSI’s ongoing acquisition strategy, says CEO.

Just before Christmas, and two weeks before the deal was meant to be sealed, New South Wales Hunter region home care provider ADSSI Limited announced the planned merger with Charlestown Caring Group was cancelled.
“Charlestown Caring Group has also announced that it will be closing its operations as of 31 December 2024,” the not-for-profit provider said in a statement released on 17 December 2024.
“ADSSI is committed to continuing our work in supporting our clients and the community.”
The merger, which was announced last October, was planned to come into effect on 1 January 2025. At the time, Charlestown Caring Group chair Janice Knowles said teaming up with ADSSI was an exciting step for the group.

“This merger will provide us with additional resources and expertise while allowing us to maintain our local identity and continue serving our community with the same dedication and care we’ve always provided,” Ms Knowles said.
Community Care Review reached out to ADSSI for comments this week and newly appointed chief executive officer John Baillie confirmed the news.
“The parties agreed not to proceed with the merger,” Mr Baillie said.
“ADSSI will always keep other options for strategic mergers open,” he told CCR.
ADSSI acquired Beresfield Community Care in 2020 and Dungog & District Neighbourcare in 2021. Its family of brands also includes ADSSI In-home Support and Maitland Community Care Services.
According to its website, Charlestown Caring Group ceased to trade as a business from 4pm on 31 December 2024.
