Residents write book of recollections and recipes

Residents at Lifeview have released a collection of Christmas recipes.

Christmas celebrations came early for Melbourne aged care residents with the release of a Christmas Cookbook containing their own recipes.

Baking Traditions – Recipes and Recollections from Lifeview Residents is a 72-page cookbook featuring 28 recipes from the aged care provider’s residents, who were invited to submit their favourite dishes.

Lifeview executive manager marketing and communications Cody Winnell said he was thrilled with the result.

“These recipes have stood the test of time and been enjoyed for generations by the families of the residents who submitted them,” Mr Winnell said.

“Now they’re sharing their kitchen secrets with the world, giving us all a chance to enjoy them and maybe pass them on to our own families and friends.”

Recipes in the collection include:

  • Traditional Christmas Pudding from Marg Lanksch at Lifeview Willow Wood
  • Cream Puffs from Norma Wilson at Lifeview Emerald Glades
  • Ginger Cake from Jan Stickland at Lifeview Argyle Court
  • Bread and Butter Pudding from Trish Bitter at Lifeview Willow Wood
  • Cheesecake from Lorraine Palmer at Lifeview The Willows.

Lifeview Argyle Court residential manager Simrat Dhillon told Community Care Review the residents were extremely pleased with the finished cookbook.

“Many of the residents here still really enjoy cooking and they look back on these recipes with enormous fondness,” Ms Dhillon said.

“This project has definitely brought additional engagement and enjoyment to the residents involved here at Argyle Court. It’s wonderful to see.”

Along with the recipes are past and present photographs of each resident and personal anecdotes.

Mr Winnell said the residents’ stories in the book was a real highlight this year.

“We wanted to make this cookbook as much a celebration of each resident and their personality as their recipe,” he said.

This is the second time that the Victoria aged care provider have published a cookbook, releasing Resident Recipes – From Our Homes to Yours last year.
