Offer reablement as pathway to independence

Support at Home offers providers an opportunity to move towards an allied health model that can help increase the independence of older people, says an expert.

To keep people longer in the community, they must be kept well and reablement is the true pathway for that, says Dr Tim Henwood, principal consultant at AgeFIT Solutions.

For this reason the government is looking at reablement as a reform option, which is good news for the incoming home care program – Support at Home, he said.

“I think that Support at Home offers providers an opportunity to move towards an allied health model that can help increase the independence of their client base, keep people healthy for longer,” Dr Henwood told Community Care Review at last week’s Aged & Community Care Providers conference in Adelaide.

  1. I am very interested to know on what authority is this fellow quoting what government thinks Also what Section or Clause in the new legislation give Providers the groubds to pay for reablemrnt and gym sessions for the aged.

    I see no evidence of thiams and plenty of evidence to the contrary .
