Dementia Australia launches Diversity Grant Program

Dementia Australia has launched a Diversity Small Grant Program to enhance dementia awareness within Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander, and culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities.

Dementia Australia has announced the launch of its Diversity Small Grant program, aimed at increasing awareness and understanding of dementia within Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander, and culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities.

Organisations and groups from these communities are invited to apply for grants of up to $30,000 to fund activities that promote dementia awareness. Applications are open now and will close on 11 October.

This initiative comes at a critical time, as dementia prevalence rates among First Nations peoples are estimated to be three to five times higher than the general Australian population. Additionally, research indicates that at least 28 per cent of individuals living with dementia in Australia were born in non-English speaking countries.

Professor Tanya Buchanan

Professor Tanya Buchanan, CEO of Dementia Australia, emphasised the importance of community-driven awareness initiatives.

“This program provides a valuable opportunity for communities to disseminate information about dementia in culturally relevant ways,” she said. “Dementia Australia is dedicated to fostering an inclusive future where everyone affected by dementia receives the appropriate care and support.”

Ms Buchanan invited Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander, and CALD communities to identify the best strategies for raising awareness and understanding of dementia and related supports in their areas.

“Regardless of who you are or how dementia affects you, we want you to know that Dementia Australia is here to support you,” she added.

In addition to the funding, successful applicants will also receive two complimentary professional dementia information sessions for their staff or committee members, along with ongoing support and guidance from Dementia Australia.

Grant applications are open until 11 October at 5pm AEST. For more information and to apply, visit dementia.org.au/dementia-australia-diversity-small-grants.
