Silverchain to provide at-home pathology testing
Starting in WA, the new initiative will then roll out across the country.
In-home aged care provider Silverchain is offering pathology tests for its clients in Western Australia.
In partnership with Australian Clinical Labs, Silverchain’s priority pathology at-home service is aimed at clients who are unable to attend a clinic in person due to illness, mobility, disability or other constraints.
“The initial feedback we’ve received from clients so far has been positive, particularly for those on warfarin who require regular testing of their blood clotting time, and no longer have to organise formal transport to a pathology centre for these tests,” Silverchain’s executive director, WA Renae Lavell told Community Care Review.
Under the initiative, clinicians will no longer have to wait for a provider to supply an individual’s pathology test results. Instead, they will be able to view the results electronically.
“The ACL-Silverchain partnership allows senior staff members to review pathology results for Silverchain clients online, decreasing time spent on follow-up phone calls to pathology services to obtain results. Now nurses and clients can make better use of their time,” Ms Lavell told CCR.
“The benefits of the process include greater efficiencies, while more readily accessible results mean smoother and safer client care,” added ACL WA chief executive officer Shae Seymour.
The priority in-home pathology service will also be rolled out across the country to Silverchain’s eligible clients in South Australia, Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland.
