New CEO for Community Vision Australia

Community Vision Australia has announced chief operating officer Yvonne Timson will replace Michelle Jenkins as chief excutive officer from next month.

Community Vision Australia chief operating officer Yvonne Timson has been appointed as the West Australian aged care provider’s next chief executive officer.

Ms Timson, who joined the not-for-profit organisation as COO in July 2017 has experience in various sectors including several roles in mental health. She will formally take over from current CEO Michelle Jenkins on 1 March.

Community Vision, as the orgainsation is known, and its 180 staff members offer home care, disability and family day care service programs to over 1,000 clients.

In announcing the appointment, CVA chair Phillip Thomas said it was a “privilege” and “honour” to welcome Ms Timson to the role, and called her a capable and proficient leader who always sought continuous growth.

“Given Yvonne’s substantial involvement in Community Vision’s journey to date, as well as her deep understanding of our customers and the sector in general, we are confident that the business will continue to flourish under this new leadership,” Mr Thomas said in a statement.

Ms Timson, who is an associate member of the Governance Institute of Australia, called good corporate governance the foundation of any successful organisation.

“My main goal for Community Vision is to continue to work towards a more inclusive community where people can live independently in their own homes for as long as possible,” Ms Timson said.

“I truly believe that age, disability, or diagnosis should never be a barrier to living your best life. I am incredibly committed to this organisation and I am heading into this role with passion, accountability, and enthusiasm.”

In a recent opinion article written for Australian Ageing Agenda, Ms Timson called for more consumer education on the home care reform process and related costs.

“If we want to have a quality service, we all agree we need more training and better systems. However, the Australian Government needs to back us in educating the wider community that delivering a reformed and improved in-home aged care program comes at a cost,” she wrote.

Meanwhile, Ms Jenkins is departing the organisation after seven years in the role to pursue her own business.

Community Vision said she had made significant contributions to the business over that time including numerous personal and industry award wins and leading the business through the global pandemic.

She will stay on to support the transition until June.
