Chair of the Aged Care Workforce Industry Council Libby Lyons has resigned and leadership of the organisation has been assumed by ACWIC deputy chair Graeme Prior.

A statement provided to Community Care Review read: “Leadership of ACWIC has been assumed by deputy chair Graeme Prior, co-founder and CEO of national aged care provider, Hall & Prior. As deputy chair, Mr Prior will work closely with ACWIC’s board and interim CEO Sarah McLelland as the organisation continues delivery of its priorities in 2023 and engages with the Commonwealth on critical aged care issues. Mr Prior will continue to fulfil his many other roles within the aged care sector, including as CEO of Hall & Prior.”

Ms Lyons – who, when resigning, cited a belief that now is the right time to pass the leadership on – was appointed the council’s inaugural chair in June 2021.

During her tenure, Ms Lyons has made a significant contribution to, not only the ACWIC, but also the aged care sector more broadly, said Mr Prior in a separate statement.

“Under Libby’s leadership ACWIC has been able to make tremendous improvements to the aged care workforce and shape important reforms for the system across the country,” Mr Prior said.

“Libby is a formidable leader, with her positive yet forthright approach quickly attracting respect across the sector. We are grateful for her commitment to ACWIC. She will be missed,” added Mr Prior – co-founder and CEO of aged care provider Hall & Prior.

Ms Lyons said she had enjoyed working with the team at ACWIC. “Since joining ACWIC, I have been inspired by the capability and approach of its people and impressed by the organisation’s capacity to deliver, despite a challenging and ever-changing operating environment.”

She added: “I have enjoyed my time with the team at ACWIC and engagement with stakeholders of the sector.”

The ACWIC was established in 2019 to oversee the implementation of the sector’s workforce strategy.

Its board will shortly consider the replacement process for the role of chair.
