Australian Unity CEO Kevin McCoy has resigned amid a major organisational shakeup at the aged care provider.

The company made the announcement to the ASX on Wednesday, saying it is splitting its Independent and Assisted Living platform in two to respond to growth opportunties across the health and care sectors.

“As part of this transformation, Kevin McCoy, current Group Executive IAL, has decided to leave the group after more than 10 years of service in senior roles,” the statement said.

Group Executive People & Culture Prue Bowden will now lead the Home Health platform while the new Specialist Care platform will be led by Group Executive Customer, Digital & Technology David Lum.

Home Health will take in Indigenous services and focus on healthcare solutions for
in-home, community and virtual settings.

Specialist Care, meanwhile, will cover residential communities, dental and disability services.

To support the changes, the company’s product and service design, marketing, and business specific technology functions will move into the revenue platforms, Australian Unity says.

Disruption

“Australia’s ageing population and the linked rise in chronic disease and complex health needs has made us further consider how we as a company can best support the growing numbers of older Australians to age well,” Group Managing Director Rohan Mead said.

“The community’s expectations and preferences for aged care alongside sector reforms resulting from the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety will disrupt, for the better, how aged care is delivered in this country.”

“As the needs of our customers evolve, so too must our company’s operating arrangements re-shape to support them.”

During his time with Australian Unity Mr McCoy held a range of senior roles, including as CFO and inaugural leader of the Independent & Assisted Living platform, where his tenure included the purchase and integration of the NSW government’s home care services.

All structural changes will be fully implemented by July 26.
