HammondCare appoints top digital exec

Not-for-profit aged care provider HammondCare has appointed health sector technology executive John Sutherland as incoming chief information officer as part of plans to digitise key processes.

Not-for-profit aged care provider HammondCare has appointed health sector technology executive John Sutherland as incoming chief information officer as part of plans to digitise key processes.

Mr Sutherland, who has been CIO at Ramsay Health Care since 2014, was named the number one  CIO in 2020 in the CIO50 list of Australia’s top 50 senior technology and digital executives.

He previously spent 12 years at medical device manufacturer Cochlear where he was CIO for six years.

Mr Sutherland has an impressive track record of delivering objectives for complex global companies and a passionate commitment to healthcare, HammondCare said in a statement.

HammondCare CEO Mike Baird said Mr Sutherland’s appointment comes as the provider continues its investment in technology to support care delivery across its services.

“John has been at the forefront of implementing advanced technological solutions for healthcare delivery on a global scale. His personal faith and genuine commitment to improving quality of life for those in need are deeply aligned with HammondCare’s mission,” Mr Baird said.

“HammondCare is expanding its commitment to digitising many key processes to better support our frontline care teams and the people we serve across health and aged care. John’s expertise and experience will be invaluable,” Mr Baird said.

Mr Sutherland said he was drawn to HammondCare’s mission and the opportunity to be part of the next phase of the organisation’s growth.

“I look forward to working with the committed and talented team at HammondCare and together developing world class approaches to health and aged care technology,” Mr Sutherland said.

Mr Sutherland commences his new role in early September.
