End-of-life care peak body Palliative Care Victoria has appointed Adjunct Associate Professor Violet Platt as CEO.
Professor Platt, an Adjunct Associate Professor at Edith Cowan University and Notre Dame University of Australia, has over 30 years’ health sector experience, including as a senior executive at WA Health for 13 years and a registered nurse.
She was most recently co-director and director of nursing at the WA Department of Health, where she was responsible for the strategic development of the WA Cancer and Palliative Care Network.
In 2016, Professor Platt received a Lifetime Achievement Honour from the WA Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards committee for her contribution to leadership, nursing, cancer and palliative care services.
Professor Platt previously has also served as a board member at Cancer Council WA and as a trustee at the Western Australian Nurses Memorial Charitable Trust.
Professor Platt said she was excited to continue to promote palliative care as a human right for all Victorians.
“Throughout my career in the healthcare industry, I have seen first-hand how important the role of palliative care is to providing a positive experience at end of life,” Professor Platt said.
“Supporting people to live, die and grieve well is so important to me. I’m looking forward to joining Palliative Care Victoria and building on the hard work of the existing Board and management to take the organisation to the next level,” she said.
