Community initiatives up for international awards

Australian providers are up for prizes in the Asia Pacific Eldercare Innovation awards, which recognise organisations that demonstrate innovation in aged care business, service and operations.

After taking out Best Home Care Operator at the 2018 awards, regional provider integratedliving is back this year as a finalist in two categories including Best Active Ageing Program and Innovation of the year.

Integratedliving CEO Catherine Daley has been named a Global Ageing Trailblazer for inspiring change and improving standards of living for older people and will receive the award in May.

Ms Daley said she was humbled to receive the award.

“I am proud to be instrumental in what integratedliving is achieving and I am personally very passionate about supporting older people to stay living independently in their own homes despite the challenges that health challenges and geographical location may bring,” she said.

“To be recognised at an international level three years in a row is a testament to our commitment to customer-focused service delivery.

“We understand the unique challenges of older people who are living outside major metropolitan areas to manage chronic disease, stay active, mentally well and connected to others socially, and we innovate to match those needs. Our wellness centres and My Support App are successful examples”.

Integratedliving’s active ageing nomination comes after it opened seven Wellness Centres across Australia last year designed specifically for older people and offering a range of services such as gym

The My Support App, developed by technology provider hayylo and designed to help aged, disability and community service providers better communicate with  staff and customers, earned it the innovation nomination.

“We have enhanced the opportunity for customers to connect with us in real time, to manage their own services, reschedule services to suit them. It also enables family, with the customer’s permission, to view services that are scheduled,” Ms Daley said.

Meanwhile, Southern Cross Care has two innovation nominations for its 10k pilot program, which is based on engaging the local community within a 10km radius of an aged care facility to create a vibrant community hub, a joint initiative involving the Groundswell Project and  Western Sydney.

A full list of finalists is expected to be available soon.

The APAC Eldercare Innovation Award winners will be announced in Singapore on May 15.

  1. The problem with these awards though is that if you can’t afford to be there in Singapore you can’t win, they want you to attend their conference and present about your award prior to judging, so it stops a lot of good initiatives from being recognised.
