Pet insurance recognises benefits of furry friends
National Seniors Australia, in partnership with RACQ Queensland, has launched pet insurance in recognition of the benefits of pet ownership for older people.
For many older Australians, owning a cat or dog can be a source of companionship, security and even a buffer against grief.
Yet often, the costs of veterinary fees can be prohibitive.
That’s why National Seniors Australia, in partnership with RACQ Queensland, has launched pet insurance in recognition of the benefits of pet ownership for older people.
The move adds pets to National Senior’s existing insurance options for travel, health, care and home and contents insurance.
General manger of National Seniors Insurance Chris Grice says having a pet can have physical, mental and social benefits for older people.
“We understand how important pets are for many older Australians. Feeding their cat or dog is, for many older people, the reason the get out of bed each day.
“The companionship they offer is often the most valued thing in their lives – and taking the dog for a walk may be the one activity that gets them out of the house on a regular basis.
“We want to ensure our members, and other older Australians, have every opportunity to enjoy the benefits of pet ownership, and to keep their pet in optimal health at an affordable price,” Mr Grice said.
Then National Seniors pet insurance covers up to 80 per cent of vet fees with an annual cap of $12,000.
Lifetime cover is available and premiums can be paid monthly.
