The Acorn Network is hosting a series of networking events for young aged care professionals to help nurture new mentoring relationships in the sector.

Emerging leaders will hear from experienced industry executives including Stephen Cornelissen (Mercy Health Group and 2016 CEO of the Year), Maree McCabe (CEO Alzheimer’s Australia), Dr Nicky Howe (CEO Southcare) and Chris Mamarelis (CEO The Whiddon Group) as part of the event series.

“The events are an opportunity for young professionals working in aged care to connect and learn from peers and industry leaders,” said Acorn Network founder Samantha Bowen.

Ms Bowen said it was important for the sector to strengthen its age diversity as a key driver of growth and innovation and greater investment was needed to support the next generation of aged care leaders.

“We know that the number of young workers is still significantly lower in aged care than the Australian average, so we must ensure we engage and retain our young talent,” she said.

Speakers will reflect on their leadership experiences and the value of mentoring relationships to their own careers.

This is the second leadership event series hosted by the Acorn Network to boost the professional development and networking opportunities for young workers in aged care.

The Better Mentors Relationship Event takes place in Melbourne (22 May), Sydney (23 May), Brisbane (24 May) and Perth (25 May).
