Clinical geropsychologist Professor Nancy Pachana has authored a new book exploring positive ageing and recent innovations in aged care from around the globe.

In Ageing: A Very Short Introduction, Professor Pachana, a researcher and lecturer at the University of Queensland, examines the biological, psychological, and social aspects of ageing.

“Understanding the process of ageing is not only important for individuals but also for societies and nations if the full potential of those entering later life is to be realised,” she said.

Professor Pachana also highlights future directions in aged care such as the rise of small group living homes for people with dementia.

The book is part of the Oxford University Press Very Short Introduction series and is also available as an e-book.

Karen Watchman, a senior lecturer in Ageing, Frailty and Dementia from the University of Stirling in Scotland has produced a new guide on intellectual disabilities and dementia.

Drawing on firsthand experiences with families and the latest in practice, the book covers topics such as recognising changes in health and strategies for support after a dementia diagnosis.

Intellectual Disabilities and Dementia: A Guide for Families supports families to plan ahead and discusses how to communicate effectively with care organisations. Published this month by Jessica Kingsley Publishers.
