A series of home modification training workshops for occupational therapists, health professionals and builders are being held around Australia in 2017 to present best practice considerations for home modifications for older people and people with disability.
The workshops are hosted by Home Modifications Australia (MOD.A), the national peak body for home modification providers, in partnership with Allianz Global Assistance, a provider of assistance services.
The training workshops will be presented by expert Liz Ainsworth, an occupational therapist, access consultant and PhD candidate undertaking home modifications research through the University of Queensland.
The training will:
- provide an overview of relevant legislation, codes and standards
- discuss roles and responsibilities of various stakeholders in the home modification process and the importance of communication
- discuss general principles for design and modification in relation to access to and within the home, and bathroom
- resources to assist practice.
The workshops will take place in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth from February and follow a session that was held in Brisbane in November.
