Experts will gather in Canberra next month to debate the impact of the Living Longer, Living Better reforms ahead of the mandated five-year review.

The forum hosted by the Australian Association of Gerontology will review the data available from the reforms from the perspective of providers, consumers and government.

An independent review of the reforms will commence this year, with a report to be tabled in Parliament by 30 June 2017.

Michael Woods, Professor of Health Economics at the University of Technology Sydney and former deputy chair of the Productivity Commission will address the event, along with COTA Australia chief Ian Yates and Ian Appleby from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare.

Australian National University’s Professor Hal Kendig and Assistant Professor Tracy Robinson from the University of Canberra will also share their analysis of the landmark reforms.

Issues to be discussed include whether unmet demand for aged care places has been reduced and whether the number and mix of places should continue to be controlled by government.

Data for the forum has been provided by the Department of Health and the National Aged Care Data Clearinghouse.

The half-day forum takes place on 3 August at the Australian National University. For more information visit the AAG website.
