Professionals working in the community care sector are being encouraged to participate in free online courses on disability issues on offer through the University of New South Wales.
The free Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) include the foundational course Thinking Through Disability and its sister course Working with Disability, which explores disability rights and issues of access and inclusion.
Participants will be encouraged to engage in debates around care and support and understand the implications of discrimination and equality in the lives of people with disabilities.
The course material includes stories from people with disabilities and interviews with leading disability studies experts.
Both courses run for six weeks and offer opportunities for class discussion and access to a range of audio, visual and written resources.
The courses, offered through Future Learn, have been developed by UNSW academics Associate Professor Leanne Dowse, who is Chair in Intellectual Disability and Behaviour Support, Professor of Disability Kelley Johnson, Dr Louisa Smith and Dr Karen Soldatic.
