The LASA Aged Care Health and Safety Manual is the first comprehensive set of peer reviewed template policies and procedures on workplace safety for home care and residential aged care providers.
LASA Victoria developed the manual in order to assist the aged care industry to improve its safety performance and promote a health and safety culture across the sector.
The aged care peak body’s CEO, Trevor Carr, said effectively managing health and safety is an opportunity to improve staff recruitment and retention in aged care and reduce the overall cost of workforce injury.
He said aged care workplace injuries in Victoria reached more than $9 million a year with the average cost per claim estimated to be $50,000.
“The manual will reduce the duplication of effort required to draft complex health and safety policies, allowing more time for aged care providers to proactively address in-field safety issues,” he said.
